Q. Can I bring my children to the festival?

Yes, the festival committee strives to present performers who are appropriate for all ages, and children are encouraged to come and enjoy the event. Many children do attend. However, parents may want to use caution around the vending area, as the vendors may have adult content at their booths. Vending booths must be publicly appropriate, but may not always be child-appropriate as determined by a parent/guardian.

Q. Are men allowed to come to the festival?

Yes. The entire community is invited. The IWMF is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to celebrate women in music and the arts.

Q. What is the seating situation at the festival?

A. Festival attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets for grass seating. Low-back chairs are not required. There is no sectioned seating, e.g. There are no areas specifically for smokers. Attendees are asked to be respectful of other festival attendees when smoking during the festival and/or while in the audience.

Q. Is food available at the festival? Can we bring our own?

Food vendors will be available at the festival, but this is not the festival's main attraction. Food will be sold throughout the festival duration, but selections will be limited. Festival attendees are welcome to bring their own coolers with food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Q. Is alcohol for sale or allowed at the festival?

No. By law, alcoholic beverages are not allowed in Upper City Park.

Q. Are pets allowed at the festival?

Pets are welcome and many people bring them to the festival. Please have your pet on a leash and make sure to have an available water bowl, as it may be hot at the festival in late September. There are faucets at the festival for filling water bowls. Please also clean up after your pet. If your pet has a history of being aggressive toward people or other animals, please do not bring them to the festival.

Q. How do I get tickets to the festival?

The mainstage on Saturday afternoon is free to attend and does not require advanced registration or a ticket. Some other festival related events (such as workshops) require advanced registration and advanced payment. Other events may require a cover charge. Please check the "Tickets" link for details on fees to attend individual events.

Q. What is the parking situation at the festival?

The festival has limited parking along its perimeter in the park. (See our Directions page for an illustration of the parking area around the park.) Parking is first-come-first-served in the park and usually fills up within the first hour of the festival. Additional parking is available in other areas in the park, on residential streets surrounding the park, as well as across Park Rd. (across from the entrance to Upper City Park) in the U. of Iowa arts buildings lots. Parking is not allowed on the park's grass. Attendees are encouraged to carpool to the festival to limit parking hassles.

Q. Will the festival be ASL interpreted for the hearing impaired?

YES!!

Q. Is the festival handicapped and wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the festival grounds in Upper City Park include paved walkways leading from the parking into the festival area as well as to the festival food sales shelter and to the restrooms. There are no paved walkways leading to or through the vendor area, however.
